SARS-CoV-2 and the COVID-19 Crisis

In Hawaii, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant economic disruption as our state and county governments issued orders restricting travel, imposing quarantines for visitors and returning residents, requiring non-essential workers to stay at home, and mandating social distancing and use of masks.  Hawaii’s courts have also responded to the coronavirus by limiting physical access to the courts, canceling hearings and trials, and conducting hearings by telephone.  During these unprecedented times, we hope that you remain safe and well.

It’s become clear that the COVID-19 pandemic will reshape our national and state economies.  Fallout from the pandemic will also result in widespread litigation.  Across the country, lawsuits have already been filed by companies seeking benefits from their insurers through their business interruption policies.

Farm Benedict Sugihara remains ready to help our clients with litigation arising from COVID-19, in whatever form that litigation may take.  We have extensive experience in litigation involving personal protective equipment, specifically, masks and respirators.  We have defended major corporations in Hawaii’s courts when they were threatened by class actions.  Home to a Best Lawyer: Insurance Lawyer of the Year, our firm has experience in coverage claims and defending insurers against bad faith claims – including a claim arising from a national insurer’s handling of a business interruption claim, as well as professional liability/casualty claims.  We are here to help.
